Footing is "mixing" (or splicing) of two different woods in an arrow. The reasons for footing an arrow are some of the following: for increased strength, increasing FOC (Front of Center Weight), style, repairing arrows, Better arrow flight (mixing hard wood up front for penetration and a weaker wood in the back to correct in-flight faster), and probably even a few other reasons I am missing.
